"Mohala i ka wai ka maka o ka pua" is an ancient Hawaiian proverb from Olelo Noeau by Mary Kawena Pukui. Literally, it translates to mean "Unfolded by the water are the faces of the flowers."
MISSIONTo
ensure a source of qualified and committed leaders on Kauai by engaging a cross
section of individuals and developing their leadership skills to serve our community
collaboratively.
VISIONEducating
and inspiring Kauai’s future leaders.
Our objectives are the following:
Leadership Kauai has truly been a paradigm shift in the way I view Kauai, Community and the future. I’ve been blessed to be a part of a wonderful and insightful group of people who I feel closer to than most of my co-workers who I see everyday. It is truly an experience that I will treasure and the valuable tools and techniques I have learned during this program I will use in my life going forward. I learned that Leadership is not easy. You don’t just take people’s hands and lead them on what to do and how to do it, but rather, it’s all about being part of a common vision or goal and that each and every person has a stake in the solution to the problems facing us. Leadership is all about getting people involved and moving toward a solution, maybe not the perfect solution you envisioned but a solution that has benefits for all the participants. It’s making that connection of the collective brain together for it is more knowledgeable, more productive, and more stimulating than any individual can do on his or her own. Through my interaction I have learned that there are issues out there that are affecting other members in our group and leadership is all about stepping forward to help others too, for that affects the overall condition and health of our community for which you are a part. We have many challenges facing our community. Leadership Kauai is giving tools to interested and invested individuals and building relationships from different walks of life forming the framework for problem solvers not belly achers.
