Our new adult class of leaders for 2013 completed an 8-hour Orientation on August 31st in Hanapēpē. Our students come from Kapaʻa to Kekaha with a wide range of background and experiences. We ended our day by participating in our islandʻs unique cultural practice of harvesting paʻakai (salt)! Mahalo to Aunty Millie Wellington of the Kauaʻi Philippine Cultural Center and Thomas Nizo of the Kapahu ʻOhana for sharing your manaʻo and resources with us!
Our next session is scheduled for September 14th and 15th at Hui o Lakaʻs CCC Camp in Kōkeʻe for more team building, an introduction to Kouzes and Posnerʻs 5 Practices of Exemplary Leadership and selecting a community project to work on together for the next 9 months.
